Bryson 🤝 Mr. Beast

Breaking down Bryson's new YouTube Video that had some influence from Mr. Beast.

🗣️ Hello Friends,

Bryson has been a hot topic in this newsletter about golf media.

And for good reason.

He has taken advantage of the off-season by continuing to post entertaining and intriguing content on all his social platforms.

I have been writing longer, more in depth stories for future newsletters, but I thought this Bryson collab was more worthy to discuss this week.

Here’s what’s on the agenda for today:

  • Bryson took a page out of Mr. Beast’s playbook

  • What were the challenges in the video?

  • Why was the idea successful?

📄 Bryson took a page out of Mr. Beast’s playbook

Last week, Bryson posted a video titled, “Make a Hole In One, Win $100,000”.

You might ask, “how did Bryson come up with this idea?”

About a month ago, Bryson appeared in a Mr. Beast video where he competed against a stranger in golf for $100,000. The catch was that the stranger’s hole was 50x bigger than a regular golf hole.

If you aren’t familiar with Mr. Beast, he is the king of YouTube. On his main channel, he has 343 million subscribers, the most of any channel on the platform.

He is recognized for his crazy video ideas that consist of different challenges with his friends, strangers, celebrities and athletes competing for money, or sometimes even a house, car, or private island.

I am fairly confident that Bryson picked Mr. Beast’s brain and his recent video idea had Mr. Beast’s fingers all over it.

🤔 What were the challenges in the video?

In the video, Bryson debuted a bunch of different challenges on the golf course:

  • 3 foot putting challenge for $1,000+

  • YouTube Golfer Garrett Clark needs to score a birdie within 3 holes for a stranger to win $10,000

  • Two strangers squared off in a 1 v 1 for $10,000

  • Hit the green on a 137 yard par 3 for a chance to win $5,000

  • Putting knockout for $1,000 from a few feet away

  • Challenged stranger to a 1 v 1 one hole match, if Bryson lost the stranger wins $20,000

  • Stranger got to compete in his Hole-In-One Challenge over his house. The time limit is 7 hours and if he makes it, he wins $100,000

😎 Why was the idea successful?

By the time this newsletter comes up, Bryson’s video will likely eclipse one million views.

In my opinion, the video was an exhilarating and suspenseful watch from the couch. I could sense the pressure and stress the strangers felt during Bryson’s challenges through the screen.

Personally, the most pressure putt I have had on the golf course was maybe $20, I am not a high roller on the links.

I found myself imagining what I would be feeling in these challenges and how many I think I could win. The challenges for the most part aren’t too difficult, unless you are the one that has to play Bryson 1 v 1. However, competing in these challenges with numerous cameras in your face while one of the best golfers in the world is watching would make my nerves flow.

Finally, you find yourself rooting for the golfers to win these ridiculous challenges. If the challenge is between two strangers, you are at the edge of your seat seeing how everything unfolds.

There’s a reason why these videos that Mr. Beast creates are so successful and engaging to watch. Watching people compete for money is fun. I guess that is why reality TV has the pull that it does and networks are always looking for the next big show.
