Phil Mickelson is taking his talents to...

Breaking Down Phil Mickelson's YouTube Channel and new content series.

🗣️ Hello Friends,

I’m quite bullish on the ever growing space of social media in golf. That’s the reason why I started this newsletter, and I’m trying to carve out a role in the community.

I do believe that more and more professional golfers will start posting their own content because they can control their own narrative.

This could be capturing golfers behind the scenes, quick tidbit videos on how to hit certain golf shots, and anything else they think fans will find entertaining and intriguing.

Therefore, we have an all time great that has joined the talented roster of golf creators.

🎥 Phil Was Destined For YouTube Golf

Many golf fans had suspicions that once Phil Mickelson’s playing years were behind him, he would transition to the broadcast booth on CBS or NBC, covering the PGA Tour.

Over the years, we got glimpses into Phil’s talents with the microphone on TV segments.

Back in 2018-2019, Phil dabbled a little bit into social media, mainly on Instagram, posting short game videos to provide tips for fans.

He also produced an Instagram short-form series called “Phireside with Phil”, where himself and guests would tell a quick story about their time on tour.

Here is an example:

However, ever since Phil connected with the Saudi’s to launch LIV Golf a couple years ago, his future in broadcasting has been in question.

Phil has captured the spotlight ever since he was an amateur, attending Arizona State for his collegiate golf career. He has seen the shift in what fans are now consuming: YouTube Golf.

Earlier in the year, he started his own YouTube Golf channel, affiliated with his LIV franchise, The HyFlyers.

What kind of content will Phil be producing? Keep on reading!

🥅 What’s the Goal?

Phil Mickelson’s most recent YouTube video featured the back nine of a rematch between him and YouTube Golf star Grant Horvat.

In the video, Phil explains his goal and what kind of content fans can expect from his channel going forward:

I love the vision of Phil’s content on his channel:

  • “Backyard Chips” → instructional chipping videos.

  • “Coffee with Phil” → sharing stories with guests.

Phil is arguably the greatest short game player of all time.

He is very articulate and descriptive while explaining his short game tips, making it easy for viewers to try and emulate what he advises.

What wins on social media is being a great storyteller.

Phil has proven to the world already that he is an exceptional storyteller and it should perform well for viewers.

📊 By The Numbers

Since the creation of the YouTube channel in May of this year, Phil and the HyFlyers have posted three videos so far:

You might ask, how did Phil get so many subscribers and views so fast?

Phil already has a massive following on social media (1.2m on Instagram). He has been able to slowly transition followers over to his channel so far.

Additionally, Phil has collaborated with YouTube Golf star, Grant Horvat, who has 924k subscribers on YouTube.

The two gentlemen just announced a new content series…

🤝 Why Is Phil Collaborating With A Certain YouTuber?

Phil Mickelson and Grant Horvat announced a new collaboration series coming in January:

They said in part two of their rematch video that they want to not only get professional golfers, but they also want to compete against athletes and celebrities who love golf.

They have seen how much success Bryson has had in his Breaking 50 series with getting well-known guests in different professions. This allows you to reach different audiences to your channel.

With Phil Mickelson’s negative perception after a head scratching decision to help start LIV Golf, will this help flip fans back to cheer for the once beloved golfer?

Only time will tell.
