Will Bryson Hit a Hole-In-One?

Breaking down Bryson DeChambeau's viral golf challenge.

🗣️ Hello Friends,

It’s time to finally dive into the professional golfer who has helped grow YouTube golf with his stellar play last season and innovative videos.

If you are still unsure who I am referring to, I am talking about the most recent U.S. Open Champion, Bryson DeChambeau.

I could go on and on breaking down how Bryson has changed his perception of himself through social media and why his videos are so refreshing to watch.

However, today I am just going to deep dive into his most recent short-form content series he has been posting for the last two weeks.

Here’s what’s on the agenda for today:

  • What is Bryson’s challenge?

  • The Numbers Behind The Video Series

  • Why Is The Series Doing so Well?

🧐 What is Bryson’s Challenge?

Bryson DeChambeau started a challenge where he is trying to make a hole-in-one.

However, the path to the hole is quite interesting…

Bryson is attempting to hit a hole-in-one over his newly built house, onto his backyard practice green.

The outline of the challenge:

  • Bryson tries to make a hole-in-one over his house everyday

  • He gets the same amount of shots as whatever number day it is (e.g. Day 12 = 12 shots)

  • He posts a video each day until he makes the shot

According to The Athlete Lifestyle, Bryson bought the property of land for roughly $800,000 back in 2019.

Bryson is incorporating his new property in his social media golf content, the first time he has ever done this.

ICYMI, here is one of the videos:

📊 The Numbers Behind The Series

Bryson’s hole-in-one challenge has been DOMINATING from a views perspective on all the short form platforms:

  • Instagram Reels

  • TikTok

  • YouTube Shorts

As of last night (11/26), here is the breakdown of views over the last two weeks:

In total, Bryson has garnered over 125 million combined views on these three platforms.

It is interesting that the short-form videos haven’t performed as well on YouTube as they do on Tik Tok and Instagram Reels.

The YouTube algorithm might not be pushing his short-form content as much because his channel is primarily long-form videos.

As you can see, Bryson’s hole-in-one challenge has been crushing it on social media.

But it is now time to explain why!

⛳️ Why Is The Series Doing So Well?

There are a handful of reasons why Bryson’s hole-in-one series is a great idea and has been triumphant on social media. Here are some of my thoughts:

Anticipation:

Each day that Bryson doesn’t hit the hole-in-one, the anticipation furthers.

Viewers are on the edge of their seat, eager to find out if he makes it in that specific video.

Additionally, you don’t want to see his celebratory reaction when he makes the shot.

Or…

You like continually seeing the agony of defeat each day that passes.

Both scenarios bring people back to watch.

Consistency:

Starting any challenge series on social media is a great idea.

Why?

Because, until you finish the ultimate goal of the challenge, people will expect to see a video in the cadence that you set (daily, weekly, etc.)

It’s something for viewers to look forward to and feel they are a part of.

Easy to follow:

The structure and editing of the video is fairly straightforward to follow.

Bryson hits off a mat from the front of his property, over the house, and onto the backyard green.

Every shot has a tracer, which makes it easy to track the ball towards the pin.

They have multiple angles from the roof of the house and on the green to give the viewer a different perspective.

It also doesn’t hurt that the front of Bryson’s house looks spectacular!

🦃 Being Thankful

I know I sound like a broken record but I am truly thankful for all that support and for those that keep up with the content I put out.

I encourage anyone who has an idea that they want to pursue to go for it!

You never know where it will take you or who you will meet along your journey.

I have some more exciting news that I will announce for those interested once the new year rolls around. I am quite bullish on these new golf endeavors.

Happy Thanksgiving! Talk soon!
